Even braved the Silver Siberian Summit for a bit of thrill. Ended the day with a spa sesh at The Pampered Pooch. Just another day in this Twin Peaks inspired town. Woof Woof! – Penny, the Furball Detective 🐾.

Like a yawning day in Pawsburg, the shops were unfurling their enthusiastic placards as the furball residents trickled in. I, the sendoff of every Jack Russell impression including Penny, had a higher purpose in this town, other than my regular citizen’s chores. Today, I was entrusted with an investigation. Not your garden variety mouse chase but a puzzle that would require me to navigate every nook and cranny of Pawsburg’s gastronomic spectrum, wherein my friend Penny, the vivacious connoisseur, had a starring role.

It started at Pawsome Pancakes; her usual haunt for breakfast was inexplicably bilking her every single soft-boiled egg they possessed. I quietly asked why “Penny can have everything in her plate but an egg. Just because she disdains carrots doesn’t mean she deserves to be our head chef’s chopping block”. The terse reply confounded my senses, “We follow orders. You better check Fur Tacos, I heard their rubber chicken supplier has gone AWOL.” Just within my grasp of grilled meats and Caesar taco salads, lay a breadcrumb of a clue – rubber chickens. Penny’s obsession was making more sense in this equation of eggless confusion.

Her infamous squeaky chicken, weathered from gnawish love, mysteriously dawned at our next dining stop, K9 Kebabs. My furred brow arched at the sight; wasn’t this the spectacle that lay constantly under Penny’s paw? What was it doing here, playing doorman to shish kebabs and teriyaki bites? But Penny’s secrets were innocuously karate-chopped into pieces, hard for an old tale-sniffer like myself to fetch.

Between Poodle Pond and Labradoodle Lake lay the Silver Siberian Summit, an unexpected haunt for Penny. Her fear of sudden thunderstorms had always forbidden her from trekking this hill and yet, lately her apparent bravery had given her a newfound prestige amongst the Mutt crowd; the caroling Max to be precise.

Finally, while snooping around The Pampered Pooch Salon, where our friend Lady lapped up luxurious spa therapies, I found a crumpled flyer that read ‘Thunder-proof!’ Coincidence mated with conspiracy, just like Lady’s latest haircut with this season’s trending liatris. Did Penny get herself a thunder-proof mantel? An ordinary spa turned into a shopping spree at Doggy Depot; although the only shield Penny ever sported was her usual, spirited, and very distinct revulsion towards thunderous ambiguity.

“Mystery erased”, I thought while reclining in her cosy armchair overlooking streets where perhaps a day ago she prowled for solutions herself. To Pawsburg – a beastly bazar of oddities and questions where every dog had his day, but Penny, our anomaly among normal, had her Day in the Life. She was every Pawsburger’s communal enigma, an entity Legion. No eggs, no tacos, just plain old Penny, a Jack Russell’s riddle in this Twin Peaks-inspired town.
