Leisel PawWord Story
“Hey, after a bout of feline mischief, your brave-heart Leisel took charge. Ruffian made Pawsburg his playground but with tooth-marked tennis ball in paw, I sent him scampering back to Cattown. Pawsburg is free, tails up! Long story short: Who let the dogs out? Leisel did! Woof, Woof! Over & Out – L.”
As dastardly fate would have it, our idyllic Pawsburg faced the darkest hour in its existence. The source of our trouble was none other than Ruffian, the scoundrel cat from the neighbouring Cattown. His relentless antics and subtle humiliations were no longer subtle, and he brought it upon himself to have our beloved Pawsburg under his paw.
My routine belly rubs at dawn were interrupted by a hysterical Puddle, his teary eyes and frantic pace echoing the urgency. “Leisel,” he breathed, “Ruffian has taken over Labradoodle Lake, encroaching East Pug Palace and inching towards Lower Dalmatian Desert. What in the canine realm are we going to do?”
The bustling avenues of Pawsburg fell ominously silent. The doggy diners, – Bow Wow Bistro, Doggy Donuts and the ever-bustling Bark Burgers stood like haunted relics. The Woofy Bakery and The Wagging Tail Bookstore remained at a standstill, and The Doggy Depot looked stripped of its welcoming spirit.
Toffee hobbled along, her glistening eyes reflecting years of wisdom. “Leisel,” she echoed my name with wisdom and concern, “It seems the challenge of retrieving Pawsburg from the claws of Ruffian falls upon you, for you possess the heart of a warrior and the soul of a saviour.”
I felt the canine spirit rise within me. My favourite, tooth-marked tennis ball served more than being my companion, it was my compass guiding me through the labyrinth of uncertainties. Fuelled on harnessing courage from its familiarity and the spirit of adventure, I decided to take things into my own paws.
Infiltrating Ruffian’s stronghold at Labradoodle Lake wasn’t a stroll through East Pug Palace. I slipped, tripped but gripped onto my resolve, renewing my fervour with thoughts of the homely chicken stew from Bow Wow Bistro over the distasteful catnip-laden treats.
My feet ached, breath came in gasps, but the fire inside me refused to be extinguished. I came face-to-face with Ruffian, in his lair of ill-made schemes. By the time I was done with him, Ruffian was scampering to return to his cherished Cattown, with his tail tucked between his legs.
As dawn rose over Pawsburg, I could see life returning to its streets. The twinkling lake called dogs for another day of untamed romp. The sight of Puddle and Toffee waiting for me made my heart twinge with relief.
With a heavy sigh, I flopped beside them. My body was screaming for rest, even a belly rub seemed overwhelming. But I saw the glint in Puddle’s eyes and the knowing smile on Toffee’s lips, and knew deep inside, this was just the beginning.
And I was ready. I was always ready. For after all, all the fires of Pawsburg couldn’t equal the fire within me.
The End.
