Tailspins and Rom-com Woofs: A Spencerville Love Story: A Lucy PawWord Story
Hey Mom,
Just a quick bark to let you know I’ve turned into quite the heroine here in Spencerville β think less damsel in distress, more Bulldog in a love mess! Met a Schnauzer who’s as fancy as a fur-lined collar and somehow his posh paws have got me doing the two-step tango around my heart. We’ve been on a spill-your-kibble, snort-laughter kind of journey; it’s like a dog park romance sprinkled with a dash of comedy. Can’t wait for you to meet him!
Tail wags and face licks,
Lucy πΎπ
Life in Spencerville is like, totally pawsome, but even a pooch with a heart the size of a full doggy bowl can find herself in a tailspin when love wags its way in. That’s me, Lucy, by the way β White English Bulldog extraordinaire and now, totally not by choice, charmingly clumsy heroine of my own romantic comedy. So grab a Doggy Bagel from the Deli, kick back your paws, and let me spin you the tale of how I tumbled head-over-tail for the most unexpected of four-legged fellas.
It all started at The Doggy Donuts, the place where the cream filling is sweet but the meet-cutes are sweeter. There I was, on my usual table, sipping my puppuccino β I take mine with extra whipped cream, thanks for asking. Bella, that little glitter bomb of energy and my BFF, was trying to convince me to join her for an afternoon of pampering at Spa for Paws.
Lucy (that’s me, duh), is not a spa-and-manicure kind of gal. I’m more of a let’s-play-in-the-muddy-puddles-until-we-look-like-camouflaged-commandos, you know?
But there he was, this sophisticated Schnauzer strutting in with a beret and an air of, “I read philosophy and write doggerel poetry.” Talk about opposites attract; he was the filet mignon to my slobbery chew toy. I mean, he ordered a mineral water with a twist of lemon; I lick the dew off grass, for barking out loud. But when his eyes met mine, it was like something out of a badly written romance novel β and trust me, I chewed up a couple in my day.
Our first date was something straight out of a slapstick comedy. We had dinner at Pup-Peroni Pizzeria (he said it was ‘delightfully kitsch’). I spent the whole meal trying to elegantly nibble on my slice, but then I choked on some spicy sausage, sneezed, and sent my pizza flying right onto his beret. Total mood killer, right?
Surprisingly, Mr. Fancy Schnauzer laughed β like, that hearty, belly kind of laugh that I thought was only reserved for when you’re chasing your tail and actually catch it. Dude was full of surprises.
But the laughs kept on coming. Like, did I mention I’m scared of the vacuum? It sounds like a monster that eats dirt and happiness. So, imagine me trying to look cool and collected when we stumble upon a vacuum cleaner exhibition at Pet Partners Pet Supplies. I literally led a charge of terrified pups straight out of the store, kibble bags flying everywhere.
Yes, I’m the super brave, super majestic pooch currently hiding behind a poodle who’s shaking like a leaf at the very sight of mankind’s scariest invention. But despite all this, our feelings were like one of those sappy songs you howl to on a full moon β growing stronger and crazier.
Our love story, complete with mismatched quirks and impromptu rain puddle dives, was shaping up to be one for the Spencerville storybooks. Against every odd, every chewed slipper and stolen steak, we found that crazy kind of love that only happens when youβre not looking for it β often under the couch cushions or in the last place you’d sniff.
In Spencerville, a bulldog and a schnauzer can make the whole world believe in love, one hilarious misadventure at a time. And as for that waiting to be reunited with our owners deal? We’re cool. Because, like, we know that love β the really good, drooly kind β it’s forever, no matter which side of the rainbow bridge you’re on.
The End.
