The whisper of an all-dog uprising against the ominous vacuum overlords circulated through Spencerville had reached my attentive ears, and being Malchik, the scruffy German Shepard-Cane Corso ambassador, so to speak, it fell heavily on my sturdy shoulders. I could tell you I reveled in the adrenaline-infused romp of espionage, but truthfully, it had more to do with Lambchops and the enticing aroma of Fetch-N-Bites, from where the first poodle whistle blew.

It was during my leisurely saunter at Lower Golden Gate Gardens when I bumped into Sinbad, who had just heard it from Whiskers, who got it from a labrador, a resident of the South Siberian Summit. The vacuums were amassing an army, planning to charge during our most vulnerable state, the dreaded bath days. I ruffed and bumped heads with Sinbad, signaling my understanding.

Seeking the woof on the ground, I swung by The Woofy Bakery, concealing myself cleverly behind a pretense of buttery croissants and sweet red-strawberry tarts. No crumbs were spared in this process, of course. You could smell the apprehension heavily amongst the loafs, a rising dough of fear that had to be kneaded immediately.

At Poodle Pond, I met Sprinkles, the local gossipy Dalmatian who also happened to be the secret leader of the K9 Intelligence Services. She confirmed the whispers. The vacuums were bold, bolstered by the over-excited Roombas. I rolled my eyes. Technology, eh?

I took my task seriously, as does any dog of high repute and intelligence braving the mission of thwarting the noisy enemy. In between stops at Fetch-N-Bites and keeping my calorie count generously high, I made scheduled visits to the Pawsome Pet Pharmacy and Canine Couture Clothing. The vacuums had a distinct weakness of stealth or lack of. With a few well-placed dog treats, peanut butter slathered chew toys, and a coordinated ambush? We reckoned this was a fight we could win.

As for my sweet sister Kahkseh & my dear hooman, they never caught onto my covert operations. They simply saw me, Malchik-gallant protector from German Shepard lineage, Cane Corso spirit-caretaker of the household. Little did they know of my nighttime escapades, my tireless efforts to keep the sanctity of Spencerville intact. But we are good boys, aren’t we?

In the thick of the fur-raising espionage, in the whirl of the dangerous vacuum-rebellion, I held steadfast, my favorites-Lambchops and squeak ball close to paw. The vacuum Incursion would soon meet its match, we storm-bracing dogs of Spencerville.

And when it finally went down – a magnificent bloodless coup of teeth-baring grrs and vigorously wagging tails – interrupted only by a break at Dog-gone Good BBQ. It was simple really. We formed the rebellion just as every dog in Spencerville would, with the implicit understanding that this was our town, where pups played free, and no pesky vacuum or bath was going to ruin it.
