Hey Mom,

Had quite a day here! Spent the morning romping around Boxer Beach, with that home-in-a-heart feeling tingling my paws. Stopped by Fetch-N-Bites hoping for an all-time fave, chicken-broccoli stir fry, but they’d mixed grapefruit in! Can you imagine, Mom? Grapefruit! Pfft.

So, ran into my bark-happy friend Molly who suggested Bone Appetit’s stir-fry night. You know how she’s always in the loop. Dodged through the delightful town bustle, including a bunch of adventurous Dachshunds and their puppy antics. I tell you, pet-life’s charming!

Spent post-lunch at Oak Park. Every rolling leaf and rustling branch there’s like a fairy tale adventure. Especially the squirrel chases, talk about speed and thrill! Pure dog-bred joy, indeed.

Anyway, as dusk set in, came back to Boxer Beach with my squeaky hedgehog. There’s a certain magic here, Mom, in the simple canine ways of Spencerville. It’s a wait, but we’re keeping ourselves busy, living each day following our tails and dreams. No grapefruit, just life, the Spencerville way.

As I run my paws along the iridescent sands of Boxer Beach, I feel that home-in-your-heart kind of feeling that only happens in Spencerville. A cool breeze ruffles the brindles on my coat and there’s that scent! That delicious, irresistible chicken-broccoli stir-fry wafting from Fetch-N-Bites.

Ah, but wait! Citrus. Always the rogue booger in my Spencerville paradise. I wrinkle my nose, the smell a sharp poke. “No grapefruit for Cassius!” I bark, but these cooks, they never listen. “55 lbs of pure Canine citizen here, not some fruit salad mutt!”

A single bark comes from behind me. I’d recognize that high-pitched baritone anywhere. “Molly! What’s a Labrador gotta do to find a clean chicken-broccoli stir-fry in this town?”

“You should try Bone Appetit, Cassius,” Molly suggests, wagging her tail, “It’s stir-fry night there.” Ah, Molly. Always quick with the town tidbits.

We navigate through the throngs of pets in downtown Spencerville. The Doggie Daycare overflowing with the puppies, a new litter of Dachshunds exploring The Doggy Depot, the whirling city of Spencerville led by whiskers wagging and wings flapping.

Among this delightful chaos of pets living it up, there’s always a melancholy hush. A silence that says we’re alive in our pet-human-like existence. Bittersweet, yes, but we make the best of it. Waiting for the reunion. Who knows? Maybe the humans missed the wake-up call.

The post-lunch hour sun brings me to my dear Oak Park. As I roll and tumble in the foliage, I fancy myself a mythical beast in a magical world, the mysterious spirit of Spencerville. Ever tried to race a squirrel? Not a mystical creature, per se, but the darn things do have a wicked speed. The wind in the fur, the heart pounding with the thrill, it’s pure dog-bred ecstasy.

At last, when the sun sinks low and the lights of Whiskers and Wings start to twinkle, I return to Boxer Beach, squeaky hedgehog in tow. Because Boxer or not, dog or God, squeaky toy or dragon egg, this is life in Spencerville.

Oh, to be Cassius Cash in a world of eternally wagging tails; to be king in canine’s clothing. That’s the Spencerville fantasy. Real for us and waiting for them, our dear human companions, one day to be reunited. Until then, we chase the squirrels, dodge the grapefruits, and live out our days in the peace of doggie dreams.
