Ah, Spencerville. The bizarrely endearing town where critters of all kinds roam the streets, nostrils atwitter with the scent of Pup-Tastic Pizza and mugs brimming with frothy beverages from Bark and Bites. Yes, in this peculiar province every creature is a cherished citizen, every beast a beloved neighbor. Meet Beagle Maggie, official sniff-sleuth and ham-chaser extraordinaire.

Now, you must understand, in a place like Spencerville where time flows like a lazy creek and every hour is happy hour, things can get…interesting. As the town’s premier time-travelling pet, Maggie spends her days zipping around epochs and continents, quite akin to that raggedy man with his blue box. Only Maggie’s box isn’t quite as blue, or as box-like. In fact it’s not a box at all, more a blinding blink in the fabric of space and time – but dog physics is a subject beyond my feeble human brain, I’m afraid.

One exceptional day, found Maggie sitting at the Lower Silver Siberian Summit. Pensive eyes reflecting the sunset, tail rhythmically thumping on the ground. She was never one for standing still, that girl, but something about the sun setting, painted henna on the horizon, would put her in a reflective state.

“Why,” she once confided in me while absently gnawing on a hunk of chicken pilfered from Bone Appetit, “should I stick to the now, when the then is just a leap, or rather, a tail wag away?”. Ah, profound, except if you actually think about it, after which it just seems like the barking madness it really is.

Maggie’s adventures through space and time were anything but pedestrian, having borne witness to some of mankind’s greatest faux pas. She’d chased dinosaurs in Cretaceous Park, shared a bone with Cleopatra’s cats, and once returned with a top hat that distinctly smelled of Charles Dickens. Once I swear she brought me a disco ball from the 1970s; although, to be honest, it could just as well came from T-Rex-sorts-of-creatures’ colorful courtship rituals. I never really asked, some things are better left unknown, aren’t they.

While her adventures were countless and her wanderlust untamed, Maggie always returned to us, to Spencerville. Afterall, where else could she indulge in retail therapy at The Pampered Pooch Salon, or catch 20 winks on the sun-kissed shores of Brown Boxer Beach?

She’d roam the cosmos, but she’d always come back, bounding in with that unmistakable joy found only in pets who’ve seen the universe, and decided that the foot of my bed was the best place, after all. Love, they say, is a dog from Spencerville. Especially if the dog is a certain time-traveling Beagle named Maggie.

“Yo Mum, it’s Mags. Just a head’s up, Spencerville is lit. They got tasty pizza at Pup-Tastic, good vibes at Bark and Bites. Guess what? I’m like Dr. Tail-Wagger, zippin’ across time. Stood on Siberian peaks, watched the sunset, got to thinkin’ – why live in now when I can fetch yesterday’s bones? I’ve run with dinos, swapped kibbles with Cleo’s cats, even brought back Dickens’s hat, and groovy disco balls… Or maybe that was dino-dance-floor bling, let’s not analyze. Spencerville always draws me back, sun-bathing at Boxer Beach after a sweet-treat at Pampered Pooch. Yeah, explored the universe, but nothing beats snoozing at the foot of your bed. Come to think of it, home isn’t a place, it’s a tail wag from Spencerville. Sincerely, your ever-romping time-traveler Beagle, Mags.”
